MI-SWACO - Greystone Mine. Tailing dam slope stability analysis. Registered Civil Engineer. Responsible in charge for the analysis of the slope stability of tailing dam (with Slope/w). The analysis was for dam decommissioning. Project also included geotechnical drilling, sampling and agency interactions.
MI-SWACO - Mountain Springs Mine. Tailing dam slope stability analysis. Registered Civil Engineer. Responsible for the analysis of the slope stability of tailing dam (with Slope/w). Project also included the preparation of a Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Plan. The stability analysis was for restart of operations of the dam. Site consists of industrial mineral mine with pit, dumps, concentration plant and tailing dam. Project also included, surface water studies and agency interactions.
Argonaut Gold – San Antonio Mine Project. Water supply study. Project Manager. Surface and groundwater studies to determine potential water supply capacity, floods, and environmental impacts. Project included floodplain delineation and flood control studies (with HEC-HMS and RAS). Also included the preparation of regional groundwater model (with Groundwater Vistas) to predict potential impacts from mining. Managed the construction of a monitoring well network to sample and establish water quality baseline. Important component of this multi-year project was water supply studies encompassing surface and groundwater sources.
TERNIUM - Aquila Mine. Regional groundwater model. Project manager. Managed the preparation of a regional groundwater model (Groundwater Vistas software and Visual Mudflow) to analyze potential mining impacts to local and regional aquifers and for open pit mining slope stability analysis. Project required processing 10 years of well water levels and gauged flows, preparation of geological, conceptual, and numerical models.
TERNIUM - Aquila Mine. River diversion study. Project manager and lead engineer. Prepared analysis of flood control and drainage diversion options for regional drainages to allow mine expansion. Project included the elaboration of preliminary construction plans and the related costs of all the drainage diversion options encompassing different configurations of channels, tunnels, culverts, and dams.
TERNIUM - Aquila Mine. Regional sediment control. Project manager and lead engineer. Project involved the sampling and chemical analysis of the site's sediments, study of the soil loss potential (RUSTLE) and designed of site wide sediment control structures.
TERNIUM - Esperanza Mine Project. Water supply studies. Project manager. Water supply studies for a proposed mine. Supervised a team of hydrologists in the preparation of a regional groundwater model (Groundwater Vistas software and Visual Mudflow) to evaluate the use of groundwater for mineral processing. Prepared a numerical model of a network of water reservoirs (HEC-HMS-RAS) to evaluate the use of surface water for mineral processing. The project included water exploration drilling and stream gauge installations.
Bonanza Gold – Copperstone Mine. Tailing dam design and construction. Project manager and engineer in charge. Design and construction of a 50 acre tailings dam including the preparation of construction drawings and specifications. The dam is a HDPE geomembrane double lined tailings storage facility with a sub-drain pipe network and a leak detection system. The project included a lined water recirculation pond (1 acre), construction oversight, and approval negotiations with the Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
Endeavor Silver - Guenacevi Mine. Pump station design. Project manager and lead engineer. Design of dewatering system for underground mine including three pump stations and the preparation of preliminary construction plans and specifications. Each pump station consisted of three high lift and high capacity pumps (1,800 gpm with 350 feet of lift) with 500 hp electric drive motors including related manifold and pipelines for dewatering 3 different ore bodies in an underground silver mine.
Coeur D’ Lane – Uruapa Mine Project. Regional water resources study. Project manager. I prepared a surface and groundwater evaluation study for the Uruapa basin (120 mile square) next to the Palmarejo gold mine. The project included geophysical surveys of areas of interest followed by a water exploration drilling program with witness wells and pumping tests.
Coeur D ’Lane - Palmarejo Mine. Infiltration gallery design. Project manager and engineer. In charge of the design of an infiltration gallery next to a major river. The project included preparation of construction plans and specifications. The gallery was designed to produce 700 GPM and included collection wells and pumps, staging tank and related pipe fittings. The project started with a hydrogeological exploration survey for site selection and to determine hydraulic properties of the site soils.
Fortuna Silver - San José Silver Mine. Water supply studies. Project engineer. Regional water supply study for new mine including the preliminary design of five supply options encompassing reservoirs, 70 mile long supply pipelines and connections to existing public infrastructure. Developed alternatives analysis and selection matrix.
Goldcorp - Peñasquito Mine. Design of HDPE pipeline. Project Manager and engineer. Design and preparation of construction drawings for 12 mile long collector pipeline for 8 pit dewatering wells, including hydraulic analysis of the interconnected well pump network with numerical simulation software (Water Cad).
Goldcorp - Peñasquito Mine. Pump station design. Project manager and engineer. Design and preparation of construction plans and specifications for a 2,000 gpm pump station, including staging reservoir. Design included hydraulic analysis with numerical simulation software of the interaction of the pump station discharge since it is connected to the plant's pressurized main supply pipeline.
Goldcorp – Peñasquito Mine. Well field design. Project engineer. Design and preparation of construction drawings and specifications for water well field HDPE pipeline collection network for ten 650 GPM production wells including wellheads and control rooms. Project included about 25 junctions and about 8 miles of collector pipeline network with redundant flow circuits numerically simulated and calculated with WaterCad software.
Rio Tinto - Bingham Canyon. Pit crest seepage study. Project manager and engineer. Geotechnical studies to determine options for seepage control at the pit crest. Work included geotechnical drilling, sampling, geotechnical and geochemical testing of mine waste rock dumps and natural soils.
Rio Tinto - Bingham Canyon. Pit crest seepage control design. Project manager and engineer. Design and preparation of construction drawings of six (1 acre) lined reservoirs to intercept surface water and limit groundwater recharge from rain and snow.
Goldcorp - Peñasquito. Surface Water Control. Project manager and engineer. Design and preparation of construction drawings of channels and related structures to contain the 100-year, 24-hour storm event. Design included a 10 mile river diversion channel (50 foot base X 15 feet deep) and about 30 miles of surface water control channels.
Scorpio Mining - Nuestra Senora. Tailing dam design review. Project engineer. Review and edits for 30 lined storage facility designs, preparation of site's water balance, and design of surface water control structures.
Asarco - Tacoma Copper smelter. Smelter site remediation design. Lead engineer for site wide cap. Smelter closure studies with detailed environmental remediation design including site-wide cap, sub-drainage system, and on-site containment facilities. Soil mass balance analyses and soil characterization surveys.
Asarco - Oklahoma (Federated Metals). Remediation design. Lead engineer for site wide cap and site infrastructure. Lead-zinc smelter site remedial design and brownfield redevelopment. Remediation design of smelter site for a proposed new Walmart store. Project included site-wide cap and formulation of related title deed restrictions, sub-drainage system and 60” RCP pipeline to connect to regional drainage network, and site cleanup.
ASARCO – Ray Mine. Spill prevention control and countermeasure plan. Engineer in charge. Ray Mine SPPCCP, Ray Arizona (ASARCO) Spill prevention control and countermeasures plan for the entire mine facility. A required plan covering the control and prevention of the release of hazardous substances as defined in the Clean Water Act (CWA).
ASARCO – El Paso Smelter. Spill prevention control and countermeasure plan. Engineer in charge. El Paso Smelter SPPCCP, El Paso Texas (ASARCO) Spill prevention control and countermeasures plan for the entire smelter facility. A required plan covering the control and prevention of the release of hazardous substances as defined in the Clean Water Act.
Grupo Mexico – San Luis Smelter and Refinery. Detailed environmental study of smelter stack plume, Project scientist. Study of smoke stack plume impacts including soil characterization and detailed soil sampling program.
Asarco – El Paso Smelter. Detailed closure plans for copper smelter. Lead engineer. Smelter site remedial design for facility closure. Project included several area-wide caps, sub-drainage systems, and on site containment facilities. Soil mass balance analyses and soil characterization surveys.
Odebrech – Seven Oaks Dam. Sediment control plan. Civil/environmental engineer. Dam in San Bernardino Mountains. Seven Oaks Dam, San Bernardino California (U.S. Corps. Of Engineers) Preparation of a sediment control plan for the construction of the Seven Oaks Dam; a major flood control dam. Included soil characterization and soil/sediment monitoring programs.
Army Corps of Engineers -Seven Oaks Dam. Quality control manager and project engineer for the construction of a large rock-fill dam. Included the elaboration of Total Quality Control program for the construction of the 5 million cubic yard main embankment. Also prepared the Master Construction Schedule (Primavera). In charge of the review and approval of all initial construction submittals and participated on the design of haul roads, QC laboratory and cofferdams.
Army Corps of Engineers - Lower Santa Ana River Project. Construction project engineer and quality control manager for the construction of 5 miles of concrete lined river channel. Included elaboration of the quality control program for grading 5 miles of the Santa Ana riverbed and placing of 75,000 cubic yards of Portland cement concrete liner and sub drain system. Coordinated subcontractor's work and supervised concrete production and placement.
Pima County Arizona - Lower Santa Cruz River Protection. Project engineer for the construction of 7 miles of soil-cement lined river embankment. Duties included source soil material exploration, pug mill acquisition, calibration, production monitoring, construction cost control, CPM schedule elaboration and tracking and productivity monitoring.
Asarco - Ray Complex. Detention Pond #1. Construction Manager and lead engineer. Managed the design and construction of a contact storm water detention pond and a fresh water impoundment. This project included a design of a geosynthetic (HDPE) lined impoundment for contact water that contained acid and metal solutions and a fresh water impoundment composed of a 40 foot tall dam.
Asarco - Tacoma Smelter. Remedial Design. Project Manager and lead engineer for the design of clay liner for on-site hazardous materials containment facilities in the environmental remedial project of a closed metal smelter site. Project involved design of site wide grading plan, under drain system, and site wide cap. This Superfund project included the design of a 2.0 million square feet sitewide clay cap, capsule repositories of hazardous materials, post-remediation roadway alignments, development/foundation area fills, and the stabilization and remediation of a steeply sloped area.
Freeport-McMoRan - Bisbee mine site. Waste rock drainage design, Civil engineer. Drainage design for reclaimed area. In charge of the design of drainage channels and structures, including preparation of drainage report.
Freeport-McMoRan – Miami leach pads. Hydraulics audit. Project manager and lead engineer for the review of the hydraulics of the leach solution pumping and distribution system. Project included a preliminary survey of the pipeline network and fittings, and hydraulic analysis with numerical simulation model (WaterCad).
Arizona Department of Transportation, Kino Blvd. Railroad Crossing Bridge. Field Engineer. Construction of 150 feet wide railroad overpass, performed field survey staking and layout calculation duties.
Arizona Department of Transportation, I-10, Park Ave. to I-19. Project engineer. Construction of 10 mile Portland cement concrete paved freeway with 6 bridges including railroad overpass and temporary bridges for detours. Duties comprised construction cost control, soil shore design, bridge false-work design, traffic detours, subcontractor coordination, and construction quantity control.
Arizona Department of Transportation, I-10/Central Ave. Freeway Tunnel. Project engineer. Construction of a mile long cut and cover tunnel freeway traffic. Duties included construction survey layout calculations for tunnel structure in reverse spiral geometry. Excavation mass balance analysis and tracking, tunnel falsework design assistance, and CPM schedule updates.
City of Phoenix, Squawk Peak Freeway section. Project engineer. Construction of 5 miles of Portland cement concrete paved freeway including 3 bridges and miles of retaining walls. Duties included cost control, progress payments preparation, and assistance to the design of retaining wall shoring.
Arizona Department of Transportation, I-17/I-10 Traffic Interchange. Field Engineer. Construction of about 10 miles of Portland cement concrete paved freeway including 10 bridges for exit ramps and mainline. Performed survey layout calculation for bridge structures and pavements. Also assisted in an excavation mass balance analysis.

Magma Copper Company, Lower Kalamazoo Ore Body Development. Civil Engineer. Engineering design and preparation of construction drawings for 1.5 mile of bored tunnel for Lower Kalamazoo Ore Body Development, Magma Copper Co., San Manuel, AZ. Responsible for the design of the tunnel alignment and cross section and was in charge of the preparation of plans and specifications.
LA Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Red Line Subway construction review. Civil Engineer. Engineering and construction review for the Red Line Subway tunnel, MTA, Los Angeles. Involved in the constructability review of the Red Line including several stations. Performed quantity take-takeoffs, prepared preliminary and conceptual construction drawings, and assisted principals and senior engineers in many phases of the review.

Marana Regional Airport, Fire suppression system. Civil Engineer. Lead engineer for the design of a fire suppression systems including two water supply wells, 1.5 million gallon steel storage tank, pump house, and 3 miles of pipeline.
Nogales International Airport, Runway widening, striping, and lights. Civil engineer. Engineering and construction administration for project that included widening of the main runway, Runway Safety Area improvements, and new runway lights including improvements of the electrical bolt with and emergency generator. Responsible for the design of the widening, coordination of electrical subcontractor and preparation of all construction documents including specifications, plans, special provisions and contract.
